Two Things to Do With Carpet Remnants

Carpet remnants are pieces of carpet which are left over in a store when a roll is cut for another customer. The remainder of the roll may then be sold by the store at a discount as it is not enough to carpet a large area. Remnants are also pieces of carpet which are left over when you have a carpet installed. If your room is an awkward shape (which is often the case with a hall, for example) you may have some large pieces of carpet remaining once the piece you need has been cut out.

Using Remnants as a Rug

One thing you can do with one of these pieces is to have it cut to an even rectangle shape and bound. Bound carpet remnants are very useful as floor rugs. They are an exact match for your floor and so they look very neat at an entrance way or other area and they save wear and tear on the main carpet. They are particularly effective if you have a wooden floor in your hall and carpeting on your stairs and landing. The remnant rug then ties the two areas of flooring together if you use it at your entrance. If you have several pieces of suitable carpet, get two or three rugs made at the same time and store the others as spares. Once the rug gets worn it can then easily be replaced.

Use Remnants for Carpeting a Small Room

If you have a small room to carpet then remnants are ideal. They are a great way of saving money on standard carpet prices or they allow you to afford a carpet of a higher quality than would otherwise be the case. Look around for ends of rolls in stores and you are sure to find something suitable. When you go shopping, be sure to have your exact room dimensions with you because the best remnants will disappear fast and your chosen carpet may not be there if you have to return to the store later.
