The Hurricane Candle Holder

These days we have many intense storms and fairly frequent power cuts because of them, having a back up lighting source is not just for use on camping or fishing trips, but also for keeping your home safe and well lit during these power outages. You should always have one flash light available, but you could always head out and buy a cart full of flash lights and batteries to light up your whole home. But for a nice consistent light for reading or relaxing there is nothing quite as good as a nice hurricane candle holder.

A lot of people are pretty familiar with hurricane lamps, but not so much with the candle holders. A hurricane lamp is normally fuelled by some sort of oil and burns a wide wick which is housed inside a large glass cone, which can come in a large range of sizes, colors and shapes. A hurricane candle holder is pretty similar in basic design, but instead of using oil as the fuel it burns a candle and the glass case is there to stop the wind from blowing the flame out.

The protective case around the candle, as mentioned, is made out of glass and can come in clear glass, frosted glass or any number of colors. You can also get some wonderful stained glasses and it can even be made from other materials such as ceramic. The shape of this case can vary from the normal pear shape, to tubular or square shapes. The base of the candle holder is normally made from brass, but it too can be made from any material you want from plastics to woods. The shape of this base comes down to the shape and size of your candle. If the candle has a large bottom or is very tall then you will need a holder with wide base.
