If you feel like there is something missing in the way you have furnished your home or office, then consider a piece of accent furniture. Accent furniture is less utilitarian and is intended to lend character, style and substance to any room. One ideal piece of accent furniture that will work in virtually any room or surroundings is the glass display cabinet.
Glass display cabinets are essentially cabinets that are intended to hold items, and that enclose them within glass to allow them to be easily viewed. Depending on what is placed inside these cabinets, as well as their design principles, they can work in any room, including kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and even bathrooms.
It used to be that glass display cabinets were very traditional in nature, with heavy, highly polished, wood frames, and intended to display valuable possessions such as fine glass or stemware, or family heirlooms. Although these types of cabinets are still quite popular and are very tasteful in traditionally decorated homes, they are only one of countless design options.
If your home is decorated in a modern or minimalist way, there are glass cabinets to suit your needs. Forego the thick and traditional looking cabinet frame, in favor of a thin metal frame in chrome, brushed silver, stainless steel, or some other material, which features not only glass walls, but also glass shelves. The thin design of the frame and the substitution of glass shelves will make this cabinet appear to be almost transparent, providing a tasteful display area that is not overpowering, and easily blends in with any surrounding decor.
Bear in mind that a glass display cabinet as discussed above will, by virtue of its design, not be capable of containing excessive weight. Regadless of the type of glass display cabinet that you choose, always be sure to verify the weight restrictions in order to avoid excess pressure, resulting in cracks or tumbling displays. This general rule of thumb applies to any piece of furniture that is indended to function as a storage or display unit, regardless of its material or construction.
