If you are like most people, no matter how much you try, it is nearly impossible to keep from accumulating stuff. What stuff am I talking about, you might ask? I’m talking about all the random things that people collect over the years that they could do without. Things like clothes, records, sporting goods, etc. If you have kids, you surely know that having them around means that you have toys, books, and all kinds of other stuff lying around all the time.

Nearly everyone needs to have a place to keep these things neatly tucked out of the way. If they don’t, then their house just gets overrun with stuff strewn all over the place. While many people will just head on over to Wal-Mart and buy the cheapest storage boxes that they can find, doing so is surely not the nicest way to do it. You see, the cheap plastic boxes tend to look pretty dull and rather ugly, and it isn’t exactly appealing to have these things lying around your house.

A better way to do it is to get some decorative storage boxes with lids. There are boxes that will actually look great in your home, and you can put things in them and close the lid tightly to keep bugs and other critters out of them. If you have children, getting some of these decorative storage boxes for the living room is a great way to store toys, stuffed animals, and other stuff.

You can even make a game out of putting toys away. It is a good idea to make a habit of getting your children to clean up their mess by themselves, usually once a day. By doing so, when guests stop by your home, it won’t be a total wreck, and all they will see are the decorative storage boxes with the lids on them.

We all need a little help in organizing our day to day life. For some it is as simple as getting a few storage boxes to get the spare room organized and other times is a project like organizing your closet. Organizing your closet does not have to be a tedious task. If you plan out the process it can go quickly and smoothly. Here are some tips on how to get your closet organized so that your mornings start out on a good note and with little frustration.

The first step to organizing a closet is to get rid of all unesseary items of clothing. Here is what I do in my own closet. I take out all of the items in my closet that are on hangers. I then rehang them with the open hook part of the hanger facing me. Then, whenever I wear a shirt I put it back in the closet with the open hook part facing away from me, which is the way most people hang their clothes. Then after a few months any shirt that is still hanging with the open hook facing me gets donated to charity. I am clearly not wearing the item and so I can get rid of some closet clutter and get rid of those items. If you already know what items you can get rid of then go through your closet and get rid of them. This will help you free up some room and give you more space than you anticipated.

Once you’ve completed the closet purge, assess your closet to see where you need more room. Do you need more racks to hang shirts? More shelves for shoes, purses, hats or accessories? After you figure out what items in your closet need more room, do some research to find the various closet organizers that will help give you the space you need. When you break it down into segments it is much easier to accomplish the task as opposed to going into it without a plan.
