Tile grout is something that you have to clean over and over again in order to keep it looking new. Everyday dirt, mildew, and possibly mold are gathering in your tile grout. So every day that you go without cleaning your grout is a day that the dirt is piling up. This is true of almost every surface, but since grout is such a porous material, it is easier for dirt and things to find their way there. Therefore, the best thing to do in order to keep your grout clean is to never let it get dirty.
But that’s impossible, you say. Well, yes, you will have to let it get a little dirty; but if you keep on a good grout cleaning schedule then it will never look dirty. For your grout cleaning schedule to be adequate you need to be a grout cleaning machine.
The worst place for mildew and grime to build up in and on your grout is in the shower. You need to discipline yourself to spend five minutes everyday cleaning a section of the shower. Divide your shower space into six or seven equal parts and pick one section to clean every day. If you only choose six sections then you can take a day off. Five minutes per day will keep your shower in tip top condition.
As for the rest of the bathroom which probably has tile on the floors and possibly walls, you will need to work out another schedule. These areas will not be as dirty, so you do not have to clean every day. Nevertheless, regular cleaning is necessary. I like to clean the grout in my bathrooms every other weekend. If I do things this regularly then I only have to spend about an hour on it each time. If you have other rooms in your home then you can do grout cleaning in those rooms on the alternate weekends.
