They will give you a free estimate that will include everything needed. If they leave too many variables be careful. Their service will include removing existing roofing materials to the bare decking. They will examine this decking and repair or replace where necessary. They will put new roof edge on if necessary and if it was on their estimate. They will install ice and water shield and roofing felt or paper to code on the entire roof. They will flash all points that require it. When putting your new shingles on, they will install to manufacturers recommendations and the building code, and will hopefully clean up the entire area when the job’s done. They will use a magnetic roller or broom across area where nails could have fallen to.
Metal roofing contractors will do the same work as above except they will install using their own preferred material.
