Living Room Furniture for the Smaller Home

Sadly not everyone can afford their ideal home which, for many, would probably be fairly spacious. Space, especially in these crowded times, comes at a premium, and there are only so many mansions to go round. So most of us have to contend with the problem of space at one time or another, certainly most of those moving into their first houses or apartments will need to learn how to fit a lot into a little space. If you already own or inherit a lot of living room furniture the logistics of placing it can be a real headache sometimes.

For those in small apartments or bedsits, it can be a real struggle to get even the essential home furniture to fit snugly. Too much furniture or particularly large pieces of furniture can overpower a room and make it feel claustrophobic. In bedsits the essentials, for most people, are the following:

  1. A bed. Obviously, this probably goes without saying.
  2. A wardrobe to hang up clothes.
  3. A chest of drawers also to store clothes, but perhaps papers too.
  4. A sofa or at least an armchair. We all like a comfy seat to collapse into after a hard day
  5. .

  6. A television cabinet, and a television obviously.
  7. A table and chairs, or at least a coffee table. Somewhere to put papers, magazines etc
  8. A cabinet or stand for their CD player or record player.

So, there are already quite a few items to think about before you even get past the absolute essentials. In a bedsit in particular, trying to arrange the essential furniture items without enhancing the smallness of the room can be really difficult. The trick is to be as efficient with the space you have as is possible, and there are several ways in which you can do this, here are a three:

  1. Invest in a sofa bed or storage bed.
  2. Combine the television stand and CD player stand so you only have one stack in the room.
  3. Use a storage box as a coffee table. Just place a good table cloth over the box and you have a neat table.

The theme is basically efficiency and making every bit of space work twice as hard. In addition to this it helps if you get rid of anything you don’t need, which can be difficult so some. The point is that no matter how small your living space there is living room furniture out there that will work for you. All it takes is a little research and imagination.
