Light Filtering Skylight Shades

Skylights are great for allowing more light into a room and they are also beautiful to look up through on a starry night. Unfortunately in the peak of summer they can also heat up a room to almost unbearable levels unless you have appropriate skylight blinds or shades to cover them. Usually, simply covering with frosted window film, for example, will not be sufficient.  One shade that many find very useful for their skylights is the light filtering skylight shade.

Basically, this type of shade will filter—not block—the amount of light that enters your room through the skylight. They also additionally help to reduce heat build up in a room.  Many people find that a simple roller shade works well in a skylight. They are relatively cheap, look good and are usually simple to operate. You can either have motorized shades or open and close them with a skylight pole.  Another plus is once installed they rarely need much maintenance. You do not have to try to scramble up and sort out the folds if they happen to fold up improperly, a task which is often almost impossible to do without a very high ladder and a lot of courage on my part. If you are looking for a blind for skylight covering, this is always a good choice

Shades can be plain white, cream or colored. If you want to wash your room with a subtle blue light, find blue-cream shades, or bright blue shades if you are bold enough.  Yellow-cream or light yellow shades tend to flood the room with a beautiful golden yellow light which gives the room a bright, sunny appearance.  Green tinted shades may be great if your room has a lot of plants but from experience it can tend to make the people sitting in the room look a little unwell at times! As you can see, light filtering skylight shades not only perform their task of limiting light and reducing heat, but they can also affect the overall ambiance of the room.
