The continents’ cores are made up of granite bedrock. Occasionally, incredible forces and conditions deep within the earth create granite with especially lovely patterns and colors in an endless variety. One such location is in the state of Espirito Santo, located in northern Brazil. The granite bedrock, now reachable after eons of being buried deep in the earth, contains beautiful granite called Giallo Veneziano granite, which means Venetian yellow or Venetian gold, for its unusual shades of yellow and brown. There is enough in Brazil to last 500 years, even though the amount mined is about 300 truckloads monthly. Nevertheless, the quantity does not represent a huge amount given the demand for beautiful and unusual shades of granite around the planet.
After being mined, the granite is polished. Part of this process includes the use of a resin to coat the surface in order to fill up possible minute cracks or pits in the slab’s surface. This is a common practice. The resin may not set sufficiently in some of the tinier fissures and eventually be shed, which may not even be noticeable and will not adversely impact the granite’s value or beauty. Large cracks should not appear, and if your Giallo granite piece develops any, the manufacturer can repair them easily. You may have to pay a small fee, but the results of these treatments are very effective.
This particular type of granite has different grades. It can be very fine textured or rough. It is popular for bathroom, kitchens, fireplaces or floors. Rough-cut stones are appropriate for use outdoors. The basic color is yellow, but the degree of yellow varies. Some have a strong brown tint to the color, and some are lighter golden-toned slabs. Rarely, some granite mined has a striking pink tinge to it. Due to its rarity and unusual appearance, it is extremely valuable.
As its name Giallo Veneziano indicates, the predominant color is yellow, often combined with brown. This granite’s colors and patterns coordinate especially well with kitchen decors that feature rich woodworking. This granite is popular worldwide because its colors are compatible with so many different other colors and decor styles, from modern ones that want a sunny theme, to traditional ones that use rich earth tones.
This beautiful granite is very dense and heavy. Shipping is difficult without a vehicle equipped with sufficient shock absorbers. Granite is incredibly durable, the reason it forms the heart of mountains and continents. Its imperviousness to extreme temperatures, weights and wear make it hard to cut, requiring diamond tipped drills or blades. The relative rarity, combined with the popularity of its special colors, also adds to the asking price. If you are able to make the investment when decorating your kitchen or bathroom, selecting this granite will pay dividends of beauty, pleasure and durability for many years.
