Insuring your garden and its plants, trees, shrubs, lawns and hedges against loss or damage is a wise thing to do. But the good news is that most garden owners will probably already be insured under their current buildings insurance policy if they have one.
Most insurance policies will protect your building, the land surrounding it and your garden against damage or loss. Coverage will include loss or damage caused by malicious damage, vandalism, theft and attempted theft. It also includes unlikely events like fire, smoke, earthquakes, lightning and explosions. It should even cover anything dropped by a vehicle or aircraft.
Your buildings insurance cover will provide adequate cover to the sum of 2,000 pounds for repair or replacements. You will need to pay your voluntary excess amount to the insurance company when claiming, but you should not need to payout any more money.
However, you may find that most policies do have some exclusions where they will not cover your garden. Such as any damage that has been done by smoke that accounts from air pollution. You may not be covered if you home has been unoccupied for a certain period of time. Damage caused accidentally by you or a family member is not covered.
If you do need accidental damage on your buildings insurance then contact your home insurance company and see how much more money it would be to add accidental damage onto your policy. It might be worth adding this onto your home insurance policy if your think you need it.
You do not only have to protect your garden and home with insurance, you can more things that can provide more protection and security. Have you a burglar alarm fitted? This can deter thieves from access to your property. Have you a locked gate stopping access into your garden and home? A tall wall or fence can also help keep unwanted people from seeing into your garden and gaining access.
