Shag rugs are hot! And there’s nothing hotter than colorful shag in the latest colors and styles to bring a room into the flooring styles of 2010. Two of the top choices for brightening up a space are the Lollipop shag rug that’s from JC Penny or a pink, purple, bright orange or neon green flokati. Yes, a flokati….those little Greek shag rugs that used to be just the color of sheep and are now every color of the rainbow.

Go Polka dot with a Lollipop Shag Rug

For between $32 to just under $400, depending on the size, you can give your floors a sweet splash of color with a Lollipop shag rug that’s actually a rectangle with large polka dots in different colors like orange, red, green, blue and brow. It’s sold through JC Penny and is Polypropylene with a blend of jute and polyester as a back. It has a plush one and a third inch pile shag which is low and makes it ideal for higher traffic areas where really shaggy shag isn’t a good choice. It’s great way to add some color to a neutral room, to brighten a studio or apartment or to renovate a drab lining space really quickly and affordably.

Neon Green Flokati

If you’re on a budget and want a quick fix of color in a bedroom go for a hot pink or bright orange or neon green flokati. The craziest of all is the neon one, but since it’s just a small little sheepskin it won’t overpower a room, just add an accent that you play up with toss cushions or play down with other neutral accents. There are genuine sheepskin flotaki styles that have been dyed and are quite expensive or really cheap ones from synthetic fibers that come in the wild colors I’m talking about like the neon green flokati like the ones from the Home Decorators collection that start at just $17. There are some great colors in the collection called Roomur Flokati, and the rugs are about 70cm round and cost about $25.

If Neon is just a bit too much, you might try the lime green shag rugs that are just a shade less dramatic or go with a paler green large shag as a central rug and accent with a few brighter throw rugs to liven thing sup. Remember that layering area rugs is a fun way to add texture and color without altering the room too much. If you’re limited by how you can arrange furniture but need a change, use rugs! It’s fast, easy and really affordable. Even if you have wall to carpet, you can still add accent rugs and totally change the feel of a room.

Go for color this year and try something new with a sweet lollipop shag rug or a bit of flashy neon green, and keep your feet shaggadelicaly delighted as well as warm and pampered.
