Baby Nursery Decorating Tips

Decorating the nursery may not be the very first thought a mom to be has after learning she is pregnant, but it certainly fills her mind soon enough. While decorating a nursery is lots of fun and exciting for the new parents there are a number of important things to be aware of when planning and decorating the nursery.

Since most parents will be starting from scratch with the nursery, safety should be the first priority. No matter how much you like something or how cute a particular item would look in the nursery, if it is unsafe, don’t buy it.

Cover all outlets in the nursery, and make sure that things like cords dangling from blinds are well out of reach of the baby. Keep in mind that once the baby begins to crawl around and explore his or her home, the entire house should be baby-proofed.

As with any decorating project, decorating the nursery will require you to spend some money. The best idea is to check your finances and create a budget before you begin. An hour or so online will give you a good idea of costs to help you with creating a decorating budget. Once you have a budget, stick to it as you make your purchases.

If your budget is especially tight, don’t forget that consignment stores are great places to find gently used baby gear. A popular trend in nursery decor is using a themed bedding set to decorate around. There are many themed sets to choose from ranging from frog baby bedding sets to airplane baby bedding sets. There are also lots of great bedding sets that don’t rely on a theme, the choice for parents is one of personal preference.

While choosing themed bedding can make decorating easier, it is simply an option not a requirement. I have seen lots of great pictures of nurseries that were decorated with lots of imagination and creative thinking. The daughter of a friend of mine made the bedding set for her little girl’s nursery because she couldn’t find just what she wanted. She has a unique, completely custom baby bedding set that is pretty and has special meaning because she made it herself.

Keep these tips in mind as you plan and shop for your nursery furniture, bedding and accessories. Above all have fun making the nursery a special place for your baby.
